Overview
Memi is a browser extension that allows you to create and manage post-it notes on any webpage. This privacy policy explains how Memi handles your data.
Data Collection and Storage
What Data We Collect
Memi collects and stores the following data locally on your device only:
- Note Content: The text you type into your post-it notes
- Note Properties: Position (x, y coordinates), size (width, height), color, timestamps (created/updated), and minimized state
- URL Information: The web page URLs where you've placed notes (used as storage keys to display notes on the correct pages)
Where Your Data is Stored
All data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API (chrome.storage.local). Your data:
- ✅ Stays on your device
- ✅ Is never sent to external servers
- ✅ Is never shared with third parties
- ✅ Is never transmitted over the internet
- ✅ Syncs only between tabs in the same browser instance
What Data We Do NOT Collect
Memi does NOT collect, store, or transmit:
- Personal information (name, email, etc.)
- Browsing history beyond URLs where you place notes
- Analytics or usage statistics
- Device information
- IP addresses
- Any data to external servers
Data Usage
Your data is used solely for the following purposes:
- Display your notes on the webpages where you created them
- Persist your notes across browser sessions and tabs
- Export your notes to text files (when you explicitly request it)
Data Access
- You: Full access to view, edit, and delete your notes at any time
- Memi Extension: Only accesses data stored by itself
- Third Parties: No access whatsoever
- External Servers: No data is transmitted
Data Retention
Your notes are retained indefinitely until you:
- Delete individual notes using the delete button (× icon)
- Clear all notes for a specific page using the "Clear Page" button
- Clear all notes across all pages using the "Clear All Notes" button
- Uninstall the extension (which removes all stored data)
Data Export
You can export your notes at any time using the "Export" features in the extension popup. Exported notes are saved as plain text files to your device's download folder. This is entirely optional and initiated only by you.
Permissions
Memi requests the following Chrome permissions:
- storage: To save your notes locally in your browser
- activeTab: To display notes on the current webpage you're viewing
These permissions are used exclusively for the functionality described in this policy.
Security
- All data is stored locally using Chrome's secure storage API
- User input is sanitized to prevent XSS (Cross-Site Scripting) attacks using DOMPurify
- No network requests are made by the extension
- Content Security Policy (CSP) is enforced to prevent unauthorized code execution
Children's Privacy
Memi does not knowingly collect any data from children. The extension does not collect personal information from any users, regardless of age.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of Memi after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Data Deletion
To delete all your data:
- Open the Memi popup (click the extension icon)
- Click "Manage All"
- Click "Clear All Notes"
Alternatively, uninstalling the extension will remove all stored data.

- Your notes stay on your computer
